Confirmation that Keynsham’s main Post Office will relocate next month

It has been confirmed that Keynsham’s main Post Office will be relocating to a new home 20 metres away following a recent public consultation.

The High Street branch will be moving into the former Shoezone premises two doors down into a new One Stop convenience store. The most recent use of the premises was as a temporary charity shop.

The current Post Office branch will close at 6.30pm on Thursday 20th February with the new branch opening at 1pm on Friday 21st February.

A  consultation ran from 6th November to 18th December and there were 72 responses. The key issues raised concerned access and internal space,  opening hours and queuing, and collecting items of mail.

In response, Post Office Limited has confirmed that the new branch will have clear access and the waiting area will be kept free from obstructions. It says there will be adequate room for customers and for a wheelchair to move around without difficulty.

There will be longer opening hours, including Sundays, at the retail counter which will offer some Post Office services.

Screened counters will be open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.  The retail counter will be open from 7am to 9pm every day of the week.

The Post Office will be relocating to this shop

Customers will still be able to collect undeliverable items of mail from the nearby Royal Mail Delivery Office as they currently do. Post Office Limited says that while the Delivery Office will not currently be affected by the move, it is unable to confirm any future plans that Royal Mail may have.

Sarah Cottrell, area change manager for Post Office Limited, said: “I would like to thank everyone who took the time to let us have their comments and provide information.

“All the feedback we received helped us to better understand the views of customers and their representatives and this was taken into account, along with all other relevant factors, in making our decision.

“After careful consideration of the feedback received, we remain confident that the layout and location of the new branch will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service, whilst securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community.”
