Royal Mail workers will be striking for another 19 days across October and November.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU), which represents thousands of people who work for Royal Mail, announced the new round of strikes on Tuesday (Sept 27).
“This is a significant announcement, but it is one which matches the level of anger our members feel at the way Royal Mail Group has treated them,” CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said.
When are the next Royal Mail strikes? Here are the dates we know so far…
Royal Mail strike dates in October and November
As reported by the BBC, the strikes will begin on October 13 and continue until November.
They revealed that the confirmed strike action dates are:
- October 13
- October 20
- October 25
- November 25
“Different teams and combinations of teams will strike on other dates but that will have a knock-on effect on all deliveries on those dates,” a CWU spokesman told the BBC.
The full list of strike dates has not been revealed at the time of writing this, but the above dates are when all Royal Mail workers who belong to the CWU are striking.
According to the BBC, strike action has been called for 24 hours from 04:00 and will cover Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Why are Royal Mail workers striking?
As explained by the Communication Workers Union, Royal Members are striking because they have had an “unagreed 2 per cent pay deal imposed on them”.
In a national strike ballot over pay, Royal Mail members who belong to the CWU voted by a 97.6 per cent majority to take action.
So, Royal Mail workers are striking for a pray rise that “fully addresses the current cost of living” as inflation is running at 11.8%.
“Our members need it, our members deserve it – the company can afford it,” the CWU said, also adding that Royal Mail group profits are at £758 million.
However, in July, Royal Mail chairman Keith Williams said the company is losing £1 million a day and blamed this on a lack of “parcel volumes” and “delivering efficiencies”.
“The pandemic boom in parcel volumes bolstered by the delivery of (COVID-19) test kits and parcels is over,” he said.
“Royal Mail is currently losing £1m per day and the efficiency improvements which are needed for long-term success have stalled.”
All the Royal Mail strike dates in 2022
So far, Royal Mail workers have strikes on six days, causing major disruption across Britain.
These are:
- August 26
- August 31
- September 8
- September 9
- September 30
- October 1
“We’re sorry for the disruption this is likely to cause you. We’re doing what we can to keep services running, but customers should expect significant disruption,” Royal Mail said.
On days when strike action is taking place, Royal Mail say they will:
- Deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as possible
- Prioritise the delivery of COVID test kits and medical prescriptions wherever possible
- Not be delivering letters (with the exception of Special Delivery)
