Cops arrest man, 41, after ‘smoking package’ found at Edinburgh Royal Mail delivery office

A man has been arrested on Broomhouse Road after reports of a suspicious package at a Royal Mail delivery office in Edinburgh on Sunday.

Police said that after enquiries a 41-year-old man has now been arrested, with investigations continuing.

Staff were evacuated from the sorting office on Cutlins Road in Sighthill on Saturday as specialist from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal dealt with the suspicious package which was reportedly ‘smoking’.

Police have confirmed a man has been arrested following the incident at property in the city’s Broomhouse Road area.

Chief Inspector Scott Richardson of Police Scotland said: “Officers in Edinburgh arrested a 41-year-old man at a property in Broomhouse Road on Monday, 16 November, in connection with a suspicious package which was found at a sorting office in Cultins Road on Saturday, 14 November.

“Enquiries remain ongoing at the address. I would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to the public, however, police resources will remain in the area until the enquiries have been concluded.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said after the incident: “Royal Mail can confirm that a suspect package was found at Edinburgh Mail Centre on Saturday 14 November.
