North Yorkshire Council has issued a reminder to motorists using a diversion route to avoid Stamford Bridge whilst repairs in the village continue.
The council has reiterated that anyone avoiding the road closure on the A166 through the centre of the village should note that the diversion through Buttercrambe is unsuitable for long vehicles.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is currently carrying out bridge repairs in Stamford Bridge. Motorists travelling between Driffield and York face a diversion around Stamford Bridge for several more weeks as part of a repair scheme to strengthen the village’s historic road bridge.
The 80 metre-long bridge, built in 1727, has been struck in road traffic collisions over the past few years, causing severe damage to its parapets.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has said it is now investing £350,000 to repair and improve road safety of the Grade II listed structure.
The adjacent footbridge remains open, while access to a local car park and shops are being
maintained throughout the bridge works.
One diversion route takes vehicles through Buttercrambe, where width restrictions are in place.
“Please don’t follow your satnav if travelling in a wide or long vehicle including any vehicle towing a trailer or caravan or HGVs,” said a North Yorkshire Council spokesperson.
“You will not be able to get through the width restriction and sharp bend near the historic bridge in Buttercrambe.
“Please follow the signed diversion.”
