Crossrail: Londoners overjoyed as the Elizabeth Line is ridden by its first ever dog passengers

If there’s one good thing about taking the Tube it’s that occasionally you get to spot a dog on the Tube. TfL’s new Elizabeth line might not actually, technically, be a Tube – it’s a railway line – but you can still get that same joy of dog-spotting.

As of Tuesday, May 24, the brand-new, purple-hued line has opened at a number of stations, including Farringdon and Abbey Wood. Like the rest of the Transport for London network, it allows inoffensive animals to travel alongside humans, free of charge.

And as some adorable photos of pups on the trains are showcasing, many London dog owners’ four-legged friends are already joining them in testing it out. MyLondon has rounded some of the cutest furry passengers that have taken to the new Elizabeth line so far.

One such cutie was little Reggie, a charming pint-sized boy with a glossy black coat and beautiful eyes. His adventure on the Elizabeth line was shared by @ChrisUK71 with the caption, ‘And the very first dog on an Elizabeth line- Reggie of course! @TfL @Crossrail.’

According to a later comment added beneath, the lovely dog is a rescue spaniel from Bosnia who is currently living ‘his best life’ in East London. MyLondon thinks he’s a real cutie.

Another of the first dog on the Elizabeth line, meanwhile, even got a shoutout from TfL itself. The transport network shared an image adorable fluffball Pepper on its official Twitter. The caption reads ‘Meet Pepper, the first of our canine passengers travelling on the Elizabeth line from Abbey Wood!’. It’s followed by emojis of a purple heart and paw prints.

However, it’s no surprise that the gorgeous pup caught TfL’s attention. As well as a furry do and sweet expression, Pepper also appears to be wearing the Elizabeth line’s logo on their collar – as you can see in a second, equally cute photo that @0wley Tweeted in response to TfL’s original post. This shows Pepper sitting atop a seat decorated in the new railway line’s distinctive purple.

Fellow Twitter user @BetterCity also shared a snap of a stunning fox red Labrador sitting on the train’s floor next their smiling owner. They captioned it ‘First dog on #ElizabethLine #redlabrador @abigailfrmn,’ next to emojis of a train moving forward and a dog.

The well-behaved pup is also pictured in a second photo, added beneath as a comment. It shows the unnamed – but handsome – four-legged companion alongside its beaming owner. It’s captioned ‘This is going to improve a lot of lives…’ As will seeing more dogs on the Elizabeth line.

And, as well as some pups on the Elizabeth line for pleasure, there were also a few working boys and girls doing very good jobs. One good girl was Ava, a gorgeous yellow-haired Guide Dog who took on the Elizabeth line along with her human.

@GuideDogAva Tweeted: “My job is to keep @Blon deHistorian safe. Today we put that to the test at a @Crossrail evacuation exercise! My colleague Guide Dog Marv & myself guided our humans off a train, along an emergency walkway in a tunnel & out the station! No problem for pawfessionals #ElizabethLine.” Nice work, Ava.
