ROYAL MAIL bosses are “displaying a complete lack of integrity” during a long-running dispute over jobs and working conditions, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) charged today, after announcing another 24-hour strike.
The union said the walkout — set to involve more than 115,000 workers from 12.30pm on February 16 — is needed after management “began forcing through unagreed changes related to the structure of work.”
The reforms, which CWU said are in “direct contravention” of pre-existing agreements between the privatised firm and the union, “must be viewed as a real step toward derecognition of CWU” as they remove its right to negotiate at a local level.
General secretary Dave Ward said: “This action is down to the conduct of management, who have displayed a complete lack of integrity.
“Our members will not just sit back and watch as their working lives are destroyed by a company leadership hell-bent on ripping up historic arrangements that protect their rights.
“It’s time management recognise this, drop the nasty games and begin taking negotiations seriously,” he demanded.
The company accused CWU of “not being interested in resolving the dispute.”
