Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky plans to expand his presence outside Europe after acquiring a stake in French energy company TotalEnergies SE. This is reported by foreign media.

In early November 2025, TotalEnergies entered into an agreement with Energeticky a prúmyslový holding, a.s. (EPH), controlled by D.Krzetinski, to acquire a 50% stake in the flexible electricity generation division in Western Europe in exchange for 95.4 million shares (4.1%) of TotalEnergies worth 5.1 billion euros ($5.92 billion).

Upon completion of the transaction, EPH will become one of TotalEnergies’ largest shareholders. In addition, the deal provides for the creation of a joint venture between TotalEnergies and EPH (50/50) for asset management and business development, with each company selling part of the products under the PSA.

The deal is fully consistent with TotalEnergies’ integrated energy strategy and will strengthen the company’s position in the European electricity markets. In addition, due to TotalEnergies’ strong position in the field of LNG supplies to Europe, the deal expands the company’s ability to diversify gas value creation. The deal is expected to be completed in mid-2026.

Dmitry Krzhetinsky expanded his field of activity far beyond energy, including the takeover of the parent company Royal Mail International Distribution Services Plc for 3.6 billion pounds ($4.7 billion) through the EP Group, which he manages jointly with VESA Equity Investment.

In addition, D. Krzhetinsky controls a stake in the British supermarket group J Sainsbury Plc, French media assets, owns shares in AC Sparta Prague and the London club West Ham United and is in the process of acquiring the German wholesale company Metro AG.

Dmitry Krzhetinsky is a Czech billionaire with a fortune of $10.9 billion. He created a conglomerate of dozens of companies in Europe in various industries, from electricity generation to transportation and storage of natural gas.

TotalEnergies SE is a French multinational oil and gas company and one of the world’s largest energy companies after Royal Dutch Shell, BritishPetroleum and ExxonMobil. TotalEnergie operates 3,000 service stations that serve 1 million customers and 6 million consumers of electricity and gas every day. The headquarters is located in Paris (France) with offices in 120 countries.

EPH is a Czech energy group that owns power plants, gas and electricity distribution networks, coal mines and a gas pipeline. The headquarters is located in Prague (Czech Republic) with offices in the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, France and Switzerland. EPH is the flagship asset of Czech billionaire Daniel Krzetinski.
