Claret & Hugh has learnt that West Ham shareholder Daniel Křetínský is being briefed directly on the search for Graham Potter’s replacement.
There had been questions over whether the Czech billionaire was still in the loop given the current chaos in the boardroom. However, a source involved in negotiations with the club over one of the potential candidates revealed that every name is being relayed to Křetínský.
When asked who is deciding on Potter’s successor, the source explained: “They [Sullivan and Brady] put all candidates forward to see his thoughts.”
Sullivan and Brady are consulting Daniel Kretisnky on Potters replacement
As reported last night, Slaven Bilic has been removed from the shortlist and will not be returning to the London Stadium. While Bilic himself may have considered potential backroom staff, we understand this was never discussed with the club.
Three main candidates remain, one of whom is Nuno Espirito Santo.
Hands on approach for billionaire
Křetínský was in the UK last week overseeing the Royal Mail transition, but he is also believed to have used the time to keep up to date with West Ham’s situation. A remote board meeting was held this morning, and the manager’s position was high on the agenda.
Personally, I’m not too disappointed to miss out on Slav. He holds a special place in West Ham history—particularly for that unforgettable final season at Upton Park—but the club must look forward.
What I can’t understand is the board’s delaying tactics. They appear to have written off the upcoming games against Arsenal and Everton without a fight. Surely any manager would want every chance to pick up points, rather than conceding another six in advance.
While West Ham pontificate, recently promoted clubs like Sunderland and Leeds United are pushing on and strengthening—leaving us further behind. Baffling!
