De Beers Garden Centre and Café has officially closed after 18 years of being a staple business in Hartlebury.
In a public announcement, the popular garden centre and café confirmed its closure and reflected on the ‘amazing memories’ made over nearly two decades in business
De Beers Garden Centre said: “Last night we all raised our glasses to a wonderful 18 years at De Beers.
“We hold and share so many amazing memories with staff there present and from the past who helped create the De Beers legacy.
“As one chapter closes, another opens for us all. We would like to thank all our loyal and supportive customers over the years who have supported us through the good and hard times.
“A huge thank you to all our amazing staff and Rachel and Tim, who started it all.
The closure comes following an outline planning application last year, which sought to demolish the business and replace it with up to 24 new homes, including 12 which will be for affordable housing.
In a planning statement, a spokesperson for De Beers Garden Centre said: “In recent years, the garden centre has attempted to create a more consistent income, and various alternative occupiers have been introduced to the site in order to diversify.
“Unfortunately, the additional services and offerings have not been successful, and this has led to the consideration of alternative uses for the entire site.
“In order to make efficient use of the land, the concept of residential development has been discussed over recent months with the Council to bring this site forward to deliver much-needed homes for the authority.”
The plans include associated public spaces, redesigned access onto the site and a new bus bay.
De Beers Garden Centre officially closed on Saturday, March 28.
