Royal Mail (RMG.L) has warned that 25 UK delivery offices are experiencing disruption in the run-up to Christmas.

The postal service puts the disruptions down to “local issues such as COVID-related self isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors”.

Royal Mail has assured customers that it was working to minimise delays to the delivery of Christmas post by rotating deliveries in the affected areas and providing “targeted support”.

However, the postal service said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible.”

On Monday, the BBC reported that “Royal Mail has confirmed that absence levels are almost double those seen in 2018 before the coronavirus pandemic”, citing a source with close knowledge of the companies operations who said the internal situation is “horrific” due to sickness.

The source claimed: “It’s much worse than a normal Christmas,” according to the BBC.

Most of the postal service’s 1,200 offices remain unaffected by the disruptions.

Royal Mail had not responded to Yahoo Finance UK’s request for comment at the time of publishing.
