Dingwall man sends clear message to Royal Mail staff over abuse of disabled parking bays

A grieving husband is calling on Royal Mail workers to stop parking in disabled bays.

Leslie Mikolajczyk (60) from Dingwall says the town’s Royal Mail workers are being irresponsible by using the bays, and they need to stop taking liberties due to the pandemic.

The disabled bays are on the town’s Park Street based between the Royal Mail Sorting Office and the church.

Mr Mikolajczyk said: “I am really frustrated that Royal Mail staff are constantly parking in the disabled bays and on double yellow lines.

“I understand the spaces are the closest to the sorting office – but these are disabled spaces and they are needed for people who have reduced mobility. I am assuming that the Royal Mail staff who are out delivering post and parcels and will be of good mobility and don’t need to use the disabled spaces. If I am wrong, and these are disabled people working for Royal Mail then they should not be parking their work van in the spaces.

“I have spoken to Royal Mail staff, I have spoken to Highland Council and to the traffic wardens, and they have all tried to help. For a few days things might change, but then it starts all over again.

“I just do not trust that anyone is listening. I know from my experience with my wife that when you need a disabled space it should be available to you.

“I have been walking the dog around the area and I am constantly seeing the same vehicles parking in these spots. There are more than 20 parking spaces and only two disabled spaces. It needs to stop. It is not fair.”

A Royal Mail Spokesperson said: “All our drivers should adhere to parking instructions and are regularly reminded to park their vehicles correctly at all times. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and we will continue to remind our drivers to park correctly to ensure this does not happen in future.”
