Diss Town FC’s footballing memories remembered with new book

The former programme editor of Diss Town Football Club has released his latest book about the club.

Gary Enderby, from Eye, has published Diss Town Football Club Memories, a 44-page, A5 size publication, including an introduction by Diss Town FA Vase-winning manager Bill Punton.

There is a brief history of the club preceding a collection of photos, memorabilia and rarities, which date as far back as 1892.

Mr Enderby was the club’s programme editor between 1987 and 2022. He is also the author of the Official History of Diss Town Football Club, which was published in 1995.

He said: “There are lots of memories in the book. These date from 1895 onwards, as well as the 1892 Norfolk Junior Cup medal.

“There are fixture cards from the 1920s and ‘30s, plus the story of the Diss v Ipswich FA Amateur Cup matches from this period.

“There are player cards that the club would send to the team members by Royal Mail to see if they were available for the following Saturday, which are fascinating.

“I have also included memorabilia from the 1949 jubilee match versus Norwich City, about the Manchester City goalkeeper who joined from a Diss shopkeepers side, and Diss v Millwall in 1956, when the tangerine shirts were used for first time.

“There are programmes from 1936, the 1940s and ‘50s onwards, and FA Vase memorabilia.

“It was fascinating to put the book together and it will be available at selected outlets shops in Diss and through the post.”
