Do Royal Mail deliver on Good Friday? These UK services are affected

The long stretch of bank holidays has arrived, but what services will be affected by Good Friday and Easter this bank holiday weekend?

As soon as April arrives, the British public know one thing: a series of bank holidays will arrive one after another to welcome in the summer months. This year sees the number of bank holiday weekends increased to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

But if you’re expecting something in the post this Easter weekend (Friday, April 15th), you might be curious about whether Royal Mail’s services are disrupted.

Do Royal Mail deliver on Good Friday?

No. If you were hoping to send out or receive any letters or parcels this coming Friday, then you’ll have to hold off a few more days. Royal Mail services do not operate on Good Friday.

On the Royal Mail website they outline their delivery policy regarding public holidays: “We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays.”

As Good Friday is a bank holiday, as is the Easter Monday, Royal Mail will not be operating over the weekend.

What about other postal networks?

With Royal Mail affected by the Good Friday bank holiday, you might be hoping that other postal services will be up and running this April 15th. Unfortunately, the bank holiday applies to other postal services too.

DPD will be closed over Good Friday and the Easter weekend, as well as other upcoming bank holidays including the Early May bank holiday and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Parcelforce, FedEx, and Yodel also do not deliver. Evri, formally known as Hermes, does not deliver or offer collections on bank holidays. DHL will be closed on Good Friday, however they will be delivering during the day on Saturday, April 16th.

What UK services stop on Good Friday?

As a majority of the UK public will be taking Good Friday off of work, you might be wondering about what other services will stop running that day.

While the postal services will be closed, most shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pubs will remain open on Good Friday.

GP surgeries are likely to be closed, as are banks, but hospitals stay open.
