Does mail run on New Year’s Eve?
USA
As per AS US, postal services are not usually affected on December 31st, but as the federal holiday falls on a Saturday, you could have to wait for things to start up again.
With that being said, the USPS website confirms that USPS Post Office locations nationwide will be open on New Year’s Eve and mail will run as normal. Likewise, FedEx offices will be open on New Year’s Eve.
It’s best to contact your local post office/postal service for direct assurance.
UK
If you’re in the UK, postal service Royal Mail will run on usual schedule from Wednesday, December 29th up until New Year’s Eve.

Does mail run on New Year’s Day?
USA
New Year’s Day is a postal holiday, meaning that Post Office locations will be closed and regular mail will not run. Priority Mail Express® mail, however, will be delivered on New Year’s Day.
Likewise, no mail will be picked up from collection boxes on January 1st.
Regular mail delivery will resume on Monday, January 3rd, 2022.

There will be no mail running on January 2nd or 3rd.
