Doorbell footage catches moment real-life Grinch steals mum’s Christmas tree from front porch

Zoe Murray shared shocking footage which appeared to show someone brazenly snatching the tree from outside her home

A shocking video caught the moment someone walked up to a home and ran away with a 6ft Christmas tree.

Mum-of-10 Zoe Murray, 52, said she left her home to collect her daughter from work, at 10pm on November 26, but noticed something was different.

A Christmas tree outside her home, in Loughborough, Leicestershire, was missing so the mum checked the live feed on her Ring doorbell footage when she returned home – having “not heard a thing” that evening.

Zoe said the recording showed a hooded figure approaching the tree before pulling it free from the stand and running off down the road.

The mum, who is unable to work due to disability, said: “I didn’t hear a thing and when I stepped outside – my tree was gone! There are two smaller trees on either side of my porch.

“I don’t know he went for the big one and not to two smaller ones. I reckon it was a dare – like a mate put them up to it. But I’m glad to have it back.”

Zoe said she managed to recover the tree ornaments and baubles that evening after she found them scattered down the road. The tree was later found dumped in a nearby park and has been reunited with Zoe – but it has not been put back outside.

Her daughter posted the clip on Facebook and a local resident commented saying they spotted the tree in a nearby park. Zoe was able to retrieve the tree the following day with her grandson.

The incident has been reported to Leicestershire Police but no arrests have been made, according to BBC reports.

Zoe said: “The lights were destroyed – ripped into five separate parts. I was mainly worried about the decorations as there are some special ones. All but one were broken, so I was happy to get them back.”

This comes after CCTV footage caught a ‘Grinch’ family of five swiping Christmas decorations from a restaurant. The clip, from last year, even saw a toddler wandering off with baubles.

Devastated restaurant owner Harriet McLearen claims her footage showed two parents and their three kids helping themselves to plastic candy canes and a giant inflatable reindeer from outside her restaurant, in Arizona.

The footage, shared by Harriet on Facebook, appeared to show the family grabbing the candy cane ornaments before picking up a case containing the inflatable reindeer and sneaking off into the night. The owner said she was “so upset” to lose the huge $350 (£275) 15-foot reindeer, she was keeping safe in a case.
