A new post office has opened in Dorking, meaning the town now has a permanent location. As well as letters and parcels the new shop will also have stationery and cards.
The new branch has opened on 268 High Street (RH4 1QT) opposite Pizza Express and other restaurants. This central location puts the Post Office in a fairly central location for the town.
The new premises, which were empty, underwent a full refurbishment to incorporate a card and stationery shop alongside Dorking Post Office. There are four serving positions in total: two screened, one open plan and a Post Office serving point at the retail counter.

This opening comes as a replacement for Dorking’s previous Post office which was also open on the high-street. This old location was at 175 High Street a mere 2 minute walk away from the new branch.
The previous post office had been operated under a short-term contract leading the Post Office to propose moving the branch to an alternative location with a permanent new postmaster, to provide a more sustainable solution.
As well as a change in location, the new branch will also operate longer opening hours. The Post Office will serve customers from 9am – 5.30pm on Monday to Saturday. This is an extra five hours of Post Office service on a Saturday afternoon compared to the old location. The same range of Post Office products and services are available.
Post Office Network Provision Lead, Simon Grant, said: “We are delighted to have a permanent new location for Dorking Post Office with longer opening hours. The fully refurbished, modern, store looks great.”
