Dorset Police warn residents of text scam

A SCAM containing a link to a fake Royal Mail website is circulating and police are warning residents to be vigilant.

Dorset Police is warning residents of a scam where mobile phone users might receive a text containing a link to a fake Royal Mail website and be asked to fill in a form with their personal information.

Officers are encouraging residents to report spam messages to telecoms providers and to stay safe online.

A spokesman for Dorset Police Cyber Crime Unit said: “Keep your eyes peeled for this scam text that’s doing the rounds. This one is fairly well known by now, but it can be very convincing so it’s well worth a reminder.

“This particular link takes you to a convincing lookalike of the Royal Mail website, with a web form asking for a lot of personal information. Don’t click to find out, we use tools to make sure we can do so safely.

“Remember, you can report spam messages to telecoms providers by forwarding the text to 7726 (which spells Spam on a telephone keypad).

“You can report scam emails by forwarding them to report@phishing.gov.uk.”
