Downpatrick security alert RECAP as suspect object declared a hoax

A security alert has been declared in Downpatrick, police say.

In a statement issued on Saturday morning, the PSNI added that a number of homes have been evacuated.

A spokesperson said: “Police are currently in attendance following a report of a suspicious object in an industrial estate in the Ballydugan Road area of Downpatrick.

“Cordons are in place but the Ballydugan Road remains open at this time. A number of nearby residential properties have also been evacuated. An update will be issued in due course.”
