Droitwich widow cannot collect mail over Berry Hill parking

Patricia Hambly said Wychavon District Council is not ticketing cars that park on double yellow lines in the Berry Hill Estate in Droitwich – an issue that stops her from picking up her mail.

The Droitwich resident of 45 years said the area might as well have a “one rule for some and another rule for others” approach after dealing with the issue for years.

She visits the Royal Mail depot on The Furlong daily and, at times, has been forced to get out of her car and walk to the depot to collect her mail.

She insisted the issue has nothing to do with the Royal Mail depot and instead involves other drivers in the area.

“Yellow lines are there for a purpose,” said Mrs Hambly.

“If I was to park on those double yellow lines, I would be fined.

“I am also not the only one struggling.

“I have seen other people waiting or struggling to get around.

“Why have Wychavon not taken the matter seriously? It is their job to check during all weather.

“Also, what gives these people the right not to abide by the law?”

Mrs Hambly said she had collected her mail from the depot for over eight years, and there has been only one day when cars have not been parked on the double yellows.

Martyn Cross, head of engineering and parking services for Wychavon District Council, said the teams patrol the area regularly to ensure parking regulations are enforced.

Mr Cross added: “We have contacted the company responsible and reminded them it is an offence to park their vehicles on double yellow lines and to make alternative arrangements.

“Our civil enforcement officers patrol the Berry Hill Industrial Estate as part of our regular enforcement of parking regulations across the district.”
