Dublin news LIVE: Traffic slowed up in city centre by anti-Covid restrictions protest

Traffic has been slowed up in the city centre by an anti-Covid restrictions protest on the first day after the government lifted most of Ireland’s lockdown measures.

Dublin City Council have warned travellers heading into town to expect delays on O’Connell Street as the protest makes its way from the Garden of Remembrance down to the GPO.

They tweeted: “Protest march at GPO. Expect some delays.”

The protest is calling for the end of all Covid-19 restrictions in Ireland – in particular mask wearing, and especially mask-wearing in schools.

Between 600 and 700 people are present at the protest, according to RTE.

The protest will be paused at the GPO for the time being before moving on down to D’Olier Street.
