Martin & Claire Murray of Dunnet Bay Distillery celebrate with a glass of their award-winning gin.

We are all trying to do what we can to help protect our environment ‒ now and for future generations.

But there are individuals across the Highlands who go those extra (carbon-neutral) miles to combat climate change in their own communities and beyond.

Highland Heroes celebrates and thanks these local eco warriors with the green hero award and we want you to tell us about them!

With Highland Heroes 2024 quickly approaching, we decided to catch up with the 2023 winner of the green hero award.

Clare and Martin Murray of Dunnet Bay Distillery picked up the accolade as they were recognised for the forward-thinking recycling programmes they offer their customers.

Customers are able to purchase pouches to refill their famously known Rock Rose gin bottles! The pouches can then be returned for free via the Royal Mail.

Not only do they provide this service, but they also have an up-cycle programme in collaboration with Highland Soap Co. in order to turn their gin bottles into soap dispensers!

Speaking about what it meant to them to win the green hero award, Martin Murray said: “The award was a real boost for us, the wider team and our community. It was unexpected and great recognition for the great work we’ve done on reducing our environmental impact. I would definitely encourage people nominate their green hero!”
