DX Express ties Silva ribbon to go electric in London

Courier firm DX this morning told investors its London parcel delivery fleet will begin a switch to electric vehicles, care of an alliance with fellow logistics operators Silva Brothers.

Twenty EVs painted in DX’s livery are on central London’s roads now, carrying the first of an intended 750,000 parcels per year in secure, next-day deliveries under the courier’s DX Express brand.  More vehicles look set to follow.

The pair began collaborating on final mile drop-offs last year. Today’s announcement takes the partnership further.

Today’s venture follows DX’s announcement this month that it is acquiring a fleet of electric vehicles for its DX Freight division to use in its delivery and logistics partnership with IKEA.

Parcels are at the forefront of the former legal document despatcher’s expansion plans. Delivering on them, DX has committed up to £25 million by 2025 to additional depots, parcel-handling kit and IT upgrades.

The courier set up shop in 1975, initially as a document exchange service to law firms. Extending into comprehensive logistics operations across the UK and Ireland, DX now claims a niche in large, awkward-to-handle freight that is unsuitable for standard conveyors.  Three successive three-year programmes of capital investment underpin its future vision.

Silva Brothers are a West London-based firm of couriers, incorporated in 2012.

DX Express’s managing director Martin Illidge commented: “We are delighted to have launched our first electric vans for our Parcels operation business with Silva Brothers Limited, one of our key final-mile partners in London.
