Eastleigh’s Olympic champion to support local cycling event On Saturday 23 July, the morning session will allow for serious cyclists to ride the 2.4 mile track and the afternoon will be dedicated to those who are there with their friends and family for a relaxed and leisurely ride.

Dani Rowe, nee King, grew up in Hamble, and starting cycling locally at Hamble Community College (now Hamble Sports College) before attending Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh. Rowe also got honoured by Eastleigh in 2012, when Royal Mail painted a post box in Hamble to celebrate Eastleigh Borough’s first Olympic gold medal for 80 years.

In 2012 she was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Eastleigh for her achievements and for putting the Borough on the cycling map. Activities off the bike will be available so that everyone can have an enjoyable day.

Royal Mail had also issued limited edition postage stamps which featured Eastleigh’s Olympic champion alongside her team. Dani said:

“This event will be a great way for families to introduce children to cycling and the ride will be a great chance for any budding Olympic cyclists to get up to speed.” Dani brought the Olympic gold medal home in 2012 after competing in the velodrome as part of GB’s women’s team.

The event will cost £15 per person, with under 16s free of charge. Dani brought the Olympic gold medal home in 2012 after competing in the velodrome as part of GB’s women’s team.
