Dear Editor,
A couple of weeks before Christmas I posted five Christmas cards to the mainland. Three were received in Dorset, Northampton and Portsmouth. Another that was addressed to Shrewsbury, went ‘missing’. The last one arrived in Southampton, just an empty envelope, opened, and in a plastic bag with a sticker on the top from Royal Mail apologising for the damage! This card had a Waitrose gift voucher inside.
Royal Mail takes at least two weeks to investigate a complaint, if at all. Too late by then.
I contacted Waitrose and, luckily, whoever stole the gift voucher hadn’t yet spent it. They blocked the voucher so it couldn’t be spent and are going to reimburse me the amount.
I’d love to have watched when it was declined at the till. Lesson to be learnt in future. Never send anything of any value through the post unless probably it’s tracked. Another expense.
I suppose, unfortunately, Christmas cards are easy pickings in the sorting office if they have a Gift Voucher inside. Won’t do that again next year.
