eBay: ‘Rare’ Paddington Bear 50p coin selling for £4,500 – you must watch out

The bidding site, eBay, is full of cheap deals which makes it a great place to grab a bargain. However, there are also some pricier items listed, like a Paddington Bear 50p coin. The fifty pence piece was given the price tag of £4,500, but is it worth it?

The coin on offer features an image of Paddington Bear at Paddington train station.

The eBay user, “k_a_r91”, listed the item on eBay with the whopping Buy It Now price of £4,500.

They wrote: “Paddington Bear Station 50p (2018 Rare). Dispatched with Royal Mail recorded delivery (next day before 1pm).”

If hoping to get the coin slightly cheaper, the seller revealed they were opening to bids higher than £3,000.

If making a purchase, buyers would also be treated to free delivery which would send the item by first class post.

Although the coin has been described as rare, it may not actually be worth very much.

The Paddington Bear coin is part of a collection of 50ps featuring the much-loved children’s character.

The coin was released in 2018 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the book, A Bear Called Paddington.

DON’T MISS

It was brought out with another design that had a drawing of Paddington Bear outside Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Mint website said: “Every detail has been considered on the coin, from Paddington’s famous duffle coat to the label around his neck that reads ‘Please look after this Bear. Thank You.’

“The design appears on this official UK 50p coin, which is finished to Brilliant Uncirculated standard, and comes in a bright folder for you to display and find out more about how Paddington’s story began.”

The fifty pence piece might be interesting to many people, but that does not necessarily mean it is rare or should be expensive.

On the Royal Mint website, the coin could be bought for £10, although it is now sold out.

According to the coin website, Change Checker, the item has a mintage of 5,001,000.

This means it is ranked as two on the Scarcity Index and is classed as “common”, not rare.

The coin can also be bought on the Westminster Collection website for a reasonable £12.99.

Fans of Paddington Bear could get the coin in an official Royal Mint Presentation Pack for £20.

What’s more, experts at the magazine Spend It? Save It? What Should You Do? gave the coin a valuation of just £5.

This is a far cry from the selling price and buyers could save by shopping around.
