An Edinburgh resident has been left frustrated after spotting a Royal Mail postie van parked over a well used cycle lane in Leith.
The image was captured shortly after 8am on Tuesday, August 24 and appears to show a red van blocking the entirety of a cycle lane at a time when many residents would be on their commute to work.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that although they accept that postal workers do a great job, they were in disbelief that a Royal Mail staff member would add to the “chaos down Leith Walk at the moment.”

On capturing the snap, they said that they ‘couldn’t believe their eyes’ and called the act brazen.
The picture also appears to show a metal structure poking out and potentially blocking a portion of the lane for active travellers.

The anonymous local, 47, said: “Posties do a great job all year round and must be busy but still, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s chaos down Leith Walk at the moment with the ongoing tram works and I’m sure they weren’t parked up there for long.
“But to block the whole cycle lane so brazenly is a bit much.”
Edinburgh City Council said they had been made aware of the incident and offered advice for anyone wishing to report issues of this nature in the future.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The council are aware of dangerous driving and incorrect parking on the footway and cycle lane in Leith Walk and are working with the police and their parking enforcement contractor to address these problems. Irresponsible driving can be reported to the police and incorrect parking can be reported to the council using the online form.”
Royal Mail apologised for the inconvenience caused and said that they would be speaking to the responsible driver in due course.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We regularly remind our colleagues of the need to consider the needs of other road users, and to comply with all relevant regulations when parking one of our vehicles. We are looking into what happened on this occasion, and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
