Edinburgh thieves steal postie’s van and parcels as warning issued to delivery drivers

Thieves in Edinburgh stole a postal worker’s van which was packed with parcels, before also helping themselves to her car from a Royal Mail depot.

Police in Edinburgh are investigating two connected incidents which happened in the city on Wednesday.

They’ve also issued a warning to couriers and delivery drivers, urging them to stay alert and be wary of crooks while making drop-offs.

As reported by the Daily Record, police were first called to Colinton Mains Terrace, near the Post Office, following reports an unmarked van (reg. DY20 SYX) had been stolen. This was around 1.50pm.

Then, overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, a black Honda Accord was taken from the Royal Mail delivery office near Gorgie Road. The registration on this vehicle is SB06 XLZ.

The Record reports that neither vehicle has been traced and enquiries are ongoing in a bid to identify those responsible.

Chief Inspector Scott Richardson, Area Commander for South West Edinburgh, said: “Officers are keen to trace a man seen in the Colinton Mains Terrace area around the time of the first theft, who is described as being white, around 30-years-old, with dark hair.

“He was wearing a black jacket with the hood up.

“At this time, we would also urge couriers in the Edinburgh area to remain vigilant and ensure you don’t leave your engine running or vehicles unlocked whilst you are making your deliveries.”
