The second day of a UK-wide rail strike resulted in a skeleton service across Scotland and industrial action is now looming on Edinburgh’s tram network.
Footfall at train stations was much lower and while some people were forced back into their cars the early indications were that many commuters worked from home.
The start of the Royal Highland Show caused delays on roads around Edinburgh with long queues and heavy congestion in the Ingliston area throughout the day.
Members of the RMT union staged their second 24-hour walkout yesterday with a third planned for tomorrow. The first took place on Tuesday and led to 20 per cent of trains running across the UK.
