English Electric Lightning P1A aircraft let outside ‘for air’

This incredible photo, a long exposure of clouds blowing across a breezy Old Sarum airfield, was taken by Salisbury Journal Camera Club member Gordon Stewart.
The subject of the photo is a Lightning P1A aircraft, part of the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection. Gordon said the plane was “allowed outside for some fresh air.”

The English Electric Lightning is a British fighter aircraft which served as an intercepted in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The classic fighter plane, which is capable of a top speed of above Mach 2, was used by the RAF and retired on April 30, 1988.
Since then, many of the remaining aircraft have become museum exhibits.
A rare sighting outside of its hangar, the aircraft was allowed out to breathe some fresh air on Saturday, March 9, when it attended an official photoshoot.
