Great food, fun with friends, and enjoyable live entertainment are just a few of the reasons to get out and about in Braidwood this month.

If you’ve been into the Braidwood Servicemens Club in the last week or two you’ll have noticed that they renovated the bar area.

Comments on social media after the work included “Looks amazing” and “Very flash! Love it!”, so if you haven’t seen it already find an excuse to go and take a gander for yourself.

If you’re looking to support the future of our local music scene, The Smokey Horse will be hosting a Girls Rock! Fundraiser on Sunday September 8.

Those funds will be put towards sending one young person from Braidwood to join the Girls Rock! Canberra music camp.

The camp says it “aims to provide a safe environment for girls, and trans and gender-diverse (TGD) young people to express their creativity, take pride in their accomplishments and learn not to apologise for making some noise.” Their next camp will be on during the spring school holidays.

Doors open early at 3pm for the fundraiser. The Smokey Horse says “The wonderful Cathy Diver will be gracing us with their British/American folk and Australiana, playing alongside folks/blues couplet Ghostgum, dreampop cats Powder Blue, and local diablos, Dani and Emmy as The Perfs. 100 percent of door sales go to the fundraiser.” It’s family friendly and tickets will be available at the door.

Still on the topic of music and creativity, Matt Dent is a regular on the local music scene and he’s looking forward to two performances in Braidwood this month.

He will be live and free on Saturday September 14 when he appears at the Royal Mail Hotel, and if you miss that or just enjoy it so much you want to hear him again, he’ll be at the Braidwood Hotel on Friday September 20.

For those who’ve not had the pleasure of hearing Matt in the past, his style is described as “Blokey folk rock. Matt Dent fuses Aussie pub rock with traditional folk. Unique yet familiar.”

Those are just examples. For more live performances, simply look to the local venues to learn who will be here on future weekends. There’s always someone booked to be on stage, and the Country Rocks Under the Stars event will be on again next month too.

Meanwhile, in some places they say ‘stay here long enough and the world comes to you.’ The world can certainly come to your taste buds in Braidwood if you would like them to.

Whatever it is that takes your fancy locally, make sure you get out and enjoy it.
