Entire Scots tower block suffers Royal Mail delivery ban after one resident issued threats

AN ENTIRE block of flats has been hit with Royal Mail delivery ban after one resident with a dog issued threats to two posties.

Tenants living in the Clyde Tower in East Kilbride now have to collect their mail from their nearest post office which is over a mile away.

They all received a letter which advised them to pick up their post between 8am and 10am with a valid photo ID.

But many have struggled to get there at the specific times, while others don’t have valid ID.

It comes after Royal Mail said one resident with a dog had threatened posties.

During one incident, they followed a postal worker through the building while they were making deliveries, the BBC reports.

There are a total of 114 flats over 19 storeys in the block.

South Lanarkshire Council said it has launched an investigation into the matter.

In May, a decision was taken to cancel deliveries to one floor of the block after a previous incident.

The ban has now been extended to the whole building following the second incident last month with the resident and dog.

Another tenant living in the building added: “I’m a dog person but this dog lunges at you and the owner encourages it, they should be able to control the dog.

“These are high rise council flats, the dog shouldn’t be here anyway – the agreement with the council says they’re not allowed.”

Scotland’s New Rules: Protecting Posties with Higher Letterboxes

A Royal Mail spokesperson told the BBC: “We take the welfare of our posties very seriously and, where necessary, will take steps to ensure their safety.

“We will continue to assess the current exemption however, it is our priority that posties are able to carry out their duties without fear of violence.”
