With the festive season approaching, millions of extra cards, presents, and parcels are set to be shipped across the UK in December. Delivery services such as Royal Mail and Evri have issued warnings about deadlines for guaranteed delivery before December 25.
If you’re planning on sending Christmas cards or gifts, it’s crucial to be aware of these deadlines to avoid disappointment. It’s recommended to plan ahead and aim to get any items shipped and in the system before these December deadlines.
Evri has provided specific posting deadlines for sending parcels within the UK:
- Friday, December 19: This is the last day for courier collections or sending a parcel by standard delivery from an Evri ParcelShop or Locker (by 11am)
- Saturday, December 20: This is the last day for sending a parcel next-day delivery from an Evri ParcelShop or Locker (by 11am)
Evri is advising customers to plan ahead and aim to send their parcels a few days before the actual deadlines for peace of mind. Royal Mail, which experiences a surge in demand leading up to Christmas, has also issued a deadline to the public. This is to prevent any disappointment over undelivered cards and presents by Christmas Day, reports the Mirror.
The following dates apply to posts being sent within the UK to other UK addresses. There are separate dates and deadlines for international post.
- Wednesday, December 17: 2nd Class / 2nd Class Signed For
- Friday, December 19: Royal Mail Tracked 48®
- Saturday, December 20: 1st Class / 1st Class Signed For

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Last posting dates are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change. It’s always advisable to post as early as possible to ensure that your Christmas letters and parcels reach their destination in good time.”
The typical timeframe for sending an item through the postal system during the run-up to Christmas across the UK differs considerably depending on the service chosen. To guarantee Christmas delivery, you must adhere to the final posting dates, though these deadlines can be impacted by factors such as extreme weather conditions or industrial action, so always strive to get items dispatched at the earliest opportunity.
