Evri named UK’s worst delivery company as four in 10 have problems

Delivery giant Evri has been named the UK’s worst parcel distribution company for the second year running, with around one in two customers reporting a problem with its service.

The courier, which rebranded from Hermes two years ago following a wave of parcel mishandling allegations, has been dogged by complaints over issues such as delays and parcels being left in the wrong place.

Evri was the worst-performing parcel delivery company in the UK according to a review of the postal sector by Ofcom, the industry’s regulator. Only 32pc of customers said they were satisfied with its service for resolving customer complaints.

Evri ranked particularly badly on complaints ranging from the delivery driver not knocking loudly enough or ringing the doorbell to customers being given insufficient time given to answer the door.

Ofcom polled more than 4,000 people who had used any delivery company in the last six months and asked them to report how often they had experienced a “delivery issue” with each company. 

Evri was the most frequently flagged offender, with 44pc of customers – nearly one in two – reporting some kind of  problem with an Evri delivery, the highest of all 10 delivery firms assessed. 

On average, just over a third of parcel recipients, or 34pc, have experienced a delivery issue with all companies, according to Ofcom.

A spokesman for Evri said: “2024 has been a year of significant investment and listening to our customers to improve our service. Our ambition is that every customer’s experience with Evri is a positive one. 

“We recognise there remains more to do, but Ofcom found that we are making year-on-year improvements and our rising parcel volumes are proof that customers and retail clients are voting with their feet and trust us with their deliveries.”
