The price of both first and second class Royal Mail stamps will rise from April 7, with the cost of other Royal Mail delivery services also set to increase.
A first-class standard letter stamp will rise from £1.65, to £1.70, while a second class standard letter will rise from 85p to 87p.
The price of a large letter will go from £2.60 to £3.15 while a second class large letter stamp will stay the same at £1.55.
Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, has urged Brits to stock before the rise: “For years, every time stamps go up in price I’ve suggested people stock up and bulk-buy in advance, as provided the stamp doesn’t have a price on it and instead just says the postage class, it’s still valid after the rise.
Lewis also also warned Brits to be careful where they stocked up on stamps.
“Buy from reputable high street outlets and, where possible, hang on to your receipt. Stamps are also available directly from the Royal Mail online shop (you must spend £50 to get free delivery).”
Royal Mail said the latest rises were the result of cost pressures and its requirement to deliver letters to all UK addresses six days a week. It adds that the number of addresses it delivers has risen by 4 million between 2004/05 and 2023/24.
Royal Mail has also increased the prices of the following UK and international delivery services, prices are dependent on weight with the Royal Mail listing its prices online.
