Marceli Malski said it was his last day in Wales and he didn’t know where he was going
An Exeter ‘explorer’ has been spared punishment after being caught in possession of a flick knife inside a historic property in Wales. Marceli Malski, 23, travelled with a group to Pontblyddyn in Flintshire, a court heard.
When police arrested him he said they had gone to explore the manor house after seeing it on YouTube. He assumed the property was abandoned and the knife was for camping.
Malski, of Chieftain Way, admitted possession of a flick knife or gravity knife, when he appeared before magistrates in Exeter on Wednesday, December 17.
He was given a conditional discharge, meaning he will not be punished for the crime providing he doesn’t commit another offence in the next 12 months.
The court was told police attended the historic manor house on August 31, 2024. Malski said they were explorers of properties of historic interest. He was looking at books and not stealing.
He told the court exploring properties was a hobby but he did not know which one he would be visiting that day. “I’d never heard of it,” he said. “I was not aware it was someone’s property who still lives there,” he added.
Malski has no previous convictions and works in construction. Magistrates accepted he had the knife for camping.
