FANS’ VIEW: Exeter City 2-2 Bolton Wanderers

Tyrers got us there in very good time, to pick up duplicate tickets, which Royal Mail had failed to deliver in time. We also had time to meet up with the West Country Whites in the Old Firehouse, built as a fire station in 1834 and famous for their fabulous 14-inch square pizzas. It was also a favourite haunt of JK Rowling in her student days and is rumoured to be the inspiration for the Leaky Cauldron in the Harry Potter books.

Exeter City are celebrating 20 years of being owned and run by their Supporters’ Trust and had designated this match as part of their ‘#HerGameToo’ weekend. The match programme was shared with the Exeter City Women v Maidenhead United Women match on Sunday afternoon, with admission set at £1 if you produced a ticket from the Bolton game.

The Wanderers fans were still buzzing after the great comeback at Barnsley on Tuesday night and looking forward to a similar performance to demolish Exeter. A dominating first half did nothing to dispel our hopes, the only concerns being we were only one goal up and the injury to Victor Adeboyejo. But the Grecians knew otherwise as they came flying out of the box and equalised virtually from the kick off. While we were still in a state of shock, they did it again three minutes later. All the good work in the first half was destroyed in the first four minutes of the second.

Gradually we got back into it and Eoin Toal nodded the equaliser with about 10 minutes to go. There are definite mixed feelings from this match; disappointed not to get three points but relieved to get one.

We cannot afford to dwell on this one as the matches are coming thick and fast now. We got another point and we’ve now got nine more cup finals left. We now concentrate on the Oxford game on Tuesday night. It is any two from the top five for the two automatic promotion places. Anything can happen but we can still get one of those two coveted top places.
