The abolition by Trump of the minimum exemption of $800 per parcel in the last eight weeks means that many sellers, such as friends of mine selling on EBay and Etsy, have had to cancel all orders from the US.
Most postal services such as Royal Mail and DHL have suspended services to America due to the impossibly of processing orders with complex rules.
As someone who was also selling daily to the US I have to sympathise with my friends since during his first term Trump put random import charges on many goods to various US States.
Most traders were forced to give up posting to the US and since in my case American customers made up 90% of my sales, I also stopped the online service.
It is concerning too that Nigel Farage wants ape all of Trump’s policies, likely because he can’t think of any of his own, and may well go down this protectionist route too. It never fails to surprise me that either of these characters garner any support at all as they are both economically illiterate.
Protectionism and tariffs in particular are catastrophic policies that belong in the dustbin of history and I can only hope that Trump loses power at the mid-terms in one year’s time before he bankrupts the whole world.
