Fernhill Heath Post Office was awarded a Thank You for 10 Years of Community Service Support – a title only given to select Post Offices that go above and beyond.
Alan Kasch, who has run the shop on Droitwich Road for 44 years, said he is delighted with the news but admitted it should be dedicated to his staff.
Mr Kasch had decided to adopt a post office in his shop in 2015 after the original delivery store came into financial trouble.
“You cannot work 16 hours a day, 365 days a year on your own,” he said.
“The captain always picks up the trophy, but it is really the team on the day.
“This award is not for me. It is for the people who work for me. It should also be for the people who come to us and shop with us.
“If I fail, then there is no money to replace the Post Office, so it would be gone.
“There are two aspects to getting this title, how hard the staff work, but also the people who keep us open.”
The Post Office’s Thank You for 10 Years of Community Service Support’ is one given to postmasters who receive glowing community feedback and have celebrated a decade of service.
Mr Kasch added: “I must admit I first thought you get one for having a post office for ten years but it turns out that is not the case.
“It is so lovely to receive this and it is nice for staff to feel appreciated.
“I might own the store, but it is my staff who are the ones serving the community all day – they deserve this award, not me.”
Area Manager, Sarah Harris, said it was always a joy to visit Fernhill Heath Post Office and praised Mr Kasch and his team for their hard work.
