Officials have revealed the key dates you need to know and are urging residents not to leave it last minute.

The earlier you post items the less likely it is that unforeseen delays could cause them to be delivered after Christmas.

To beat the festive rush, the Royal Mail has issued the latest posting dates – from earliest to latest.

  • Last posting date for 2nd Class mail is Wednesday December 18
  • Last posting date for 1st Class mail is Friday December 20
  • Last posting date for Royal Mail Tracked 24 is Saturday December 21
  • Last posting date for Special Delivery Guaranteed is Monday December 23

Bosses say they will be adding extra deliveries to meet the increased festive demand this winter.

Nick Landon, chief commercial officer at Royal Mail, said: “Every year we pull out all the stops to deliver Christmas for our customers.

“We will have an additional 16,000 seasonal workers and almost 4,000 new vans, trucks and trailers added to the fleet in time for Christmas.

“It’s our busiest time of year and we plan all year round to help ensure we deliver the best possible service for UK consumers and businesses.”

We recently told how Royal Mail is set to make a major change to second class postal services as part of a new shake-up.

Under an overhaul being considered by the industry watchdog, the postal service could be allowed to ditch Saturday deliveries for second class letters.

Scots have also been urged to stock up on stamps now so you don’t need to buy new ones come Christmas.

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis previously said: “For years, every time stamps go up in price I’ve suggested people stock up and bulk-buy in advance.

“Provided the stamp doesn’t have a price on it and instead just says the postage class, it’s still valid after the hike.

“So you may as well stock up now, even if it’s just for Christmas cards for the next few Christmases.”
