The last day that you can send something through the Royal Mail has been brought forward this year by almost a week due to ongoing industrial action, meaning Gloucestershire residents have just days to get Christmas cards and presents in the mail if they want them to arrive in time for Christmas Day.
This year, the first deadline for present-posting is this Monday, December 12, for Second Class post, though last-minute shoppers will still be able to pay a large premium to have their presents delivered in time for the big day up to December 22. This Second Class deadline is six days earlier than it was last year.
These posting dates have been brought forward to make sure that people can get their gifts and cards in time for Christmas, while workers for Royal Mail continue their dispute over working conditions and pay. The now-privatised mail company advises customers to post their presents as early as possible to ensure on-time delivery.

A spokesperson for the Royal Mail said: “Due to the recent strike action by members of the Communication Workers Union, disruption to deliveries and our services is expected. Items posted in the run up, during and after strike days are likely to be subject to delay. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this will cause.
“Royal Mail has well-developed contingency plans, but we cannot fully replace the daily efforts of our frontline workforce. We’ll be doing what we can to keep services running, but we’re sorry this planned strike action is likely to cause you some disruption.”
The final posting dates for Christmas Day are as follows:

- Royal Mail 1st Class – Friday 16 December
- Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed* – Wednesday 21 December
