Former Carlisle United and Barrow AFC left-back seals League One move

Brough’s move to the Cobblers comes after he rejected a new contract at Pete Wild’s Bluebirds in May.

The full-back will officially become a Northampton player on July 1 and speaking on the Cobblers’ website put the move to the East Midlands club down to its reputation of developing and improving players.

He said: “When you know someone has been interested in you for a while it gives you a lot of confidence and encouragement and in the end, it was a pretty simple decision for me to come here.

“The way the club came back last season from what happened shows the character of the group and when I’ve played against Northampton I’ve always been impressed.

“I’m really looking forward to testing myself in League One and that was a big part of my decision.

“As a player, you want to test yourself against better players and at the highest level you can.

“I’ve played quite a few seasons in League Two now and I wanted to make that step up and put myself to the test.

“I’d like to think I am consistent in my performances, I like defending one-on-one and I like to get forward and get balls into the box.

“Versatility is a massive part of my game and I can play at left-back in a back three or at left-wing back.

“It’s always good to have a few different strings to your bow and as everyone knows football can change throughout a season, sometimes you have to switch formations and I’m happy to do that.”
