Former Plymouth Royal Mail rep who died on holiday named by coroner

An inquest has been opened into the death of a Plymouth man who died while on holiday in Germany. The passing of 64-year-old Peter Cullen was recorded at a public hearing on November 18 by area coroner Alison Longhorn at Exeter County Hall, now the main coroner’s court for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

Ms Longhorn noted that Peter was born on Canvey Island, Essex and resided at an address in Cattedown, Plymouth. During the short public hearing she stated that he died in Berlin, Germany on November 16, 2024.

She added that he was a retired Royal Mail representative. Explaining the circumstances of his death, she said Peter was vacationing in Berlin when he collapsed in a shopping centre.

Despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was sadly pronounced deceased. She told the court there were no suspicious circumstances, but stated that on the current evidence the medical cause of death was unascertained.

She adjourned the hearing and a full inquest will take place at a later date.

Plymouth City Council has previously confirmed that any family or friends who wishes to attend the full inquest can request for it to be held at Plymouth’s Coroner’s Court rather than be forced to travel to the Exeter venue.
