Former Royal Mail CFO receives honorary doctorate from UWS

University of the West of Scotland (UWS) bestowed an honorary doctorate upon Angela Noon OBE, group chief financial officer of Spectris PLC, during its winter graduation ceremony at Paisley Abbey on 15 November.

In addition to her position as CFO of precision instrumentation and controls group Spectris PLC, Ms Noon is a UWS alumni and the former CFO at Royal Mail, was celebrated as part of a ceremony taking place at Paisley Abbey today (Friday 15 November).

Ms Noon, a chartered management accountant, has more than 25 years of finance and commercial experience to the role. She is also currently a member of the supervisory board of Just Eat Takeaway N.V. and chair of its audit committee. Ms Noon also spent over 20 years in various international leadership roles at Siemens AG in digitalisation, industrial software and business development. She was awarded an OBE in 2022, for services to further education. 



Siobhan White, associate dean for learning and teaching within the School of Business and Creative Industries at UWS, delivered Ms Noon’s laureation, which reflected on her impressive career in finance and business and her contribution to education.

Ms Noon said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to receive this award from UWS, particularly as an alumni of this fantastic institution. It has been wonderful to hear the success stories of the UWS students as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.”

Professor James Miller, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UWS, said: “Graduation is the most important event in our University calendar, giving us the opportunity to showcase the fantastic achievements of our students and celebrate each and every one of their successes amongst their families and peers.

“As part of the ceremony, we were delighted to present Angela Noon OBE with this Honorary Doctorate.

“A friend of UWS, Angela is an inspiration to our students, particularly to those following career aspirations in the fields of finance and business. Angela shared valuable insights and lessons today during the ceremony which I’m sure will have been of great interest and benefit to our students.”
