Four new scams aimed at Islanders —here’s what to look out for

THERE have been reports of a number of scams reaching the Isle of Wight this week.

Residents should be on the look out for the following fraudulent messages:

  • Emails and texts from delivery companies including Royal Mail — there have been reports of a scam email advising delivery of a parcel was unsuccessful and asking you to click on a link to reschedule.

Remember NEVER click on links in messages and always check the sender email address to see if it is legitimate.

  • Action Fraud is warning people selling items online to be on the lookout for criminals sending fake paypal emails.

Criminals have been targeting people selling items online, by sending them emails purporting to be from PayPal. The emails trick victims into believing they have received payment for the items they’re selling on the platform.

  • A message purporting to be from Apple is being received in text and email form. It advises that you can’t access your account and Apple services and need to verify your account.

Do not click on the links in the message and always check the sender email address to see if it legitimate.

  • Reports of large amounts of phone calls purporting to be Sky Technical. If in doubt check with your provider.

Have you spotted a suspicious email?

If you have received an email which you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS) at report@phishing.gov.uk.
