Lezoo bids to give Frankie Dettori a winning return in the Hackwood Stakes at Newbury, with trainer Ralph Beckett’s faith in his filly intact despite two defeats this year.
Suspensions mean Dettori has been on the sidelines since Royal Ascot last month, where one of his rides was Lezoo’s unplaced effort in the Commonwealth Cup when drawn away from the main action.
Before that, Lezoo, winner of the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes last year, failed to stay the mile in the 1,000 Guineas.
Beckett said: ‘She didn’t get dragged into the race at Ascot and the result was a lacklustre effort. This race will really suit her and she goes there in really good form.’
Beckett supplies the only British runner — Bluestocking — in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks. She was third behind Warm Heart, who she reopposes, in Royal Ascot’s Ribblesdale Stakes but Beckett believes that gap can be closed.

He said: ‘The rain that is falling will suit her. She has got to improve but we think that is probable. She didn’t get out (to make a run) at Ascot until it was all over.’
Beckett has yet to decide whether Westover runs in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot a week today after winning the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud on July 8.
Beckett said: ‘It is quite quick back. It’s a question of whether he’s ready for it.’
