Frustration at mess being left by development site in Southport

Residents close to the construction site of the housing development on the Kew Estate in Southport, Merseyside have voiced their anger over the mess and the use of heavy vehicles.

The Pavilion Gardens development is under way at Town Lane in Southport where two, three and four-bedroom homes are being built.

One resident said: “The horrendous mess being made by the construction of new houses on Kew estate.

“It’s like walking and driving through a field.

“And now they are driving earth movers on a public road, which I’m sure is against the law even though it states no construction traffic.

“It’s beyond a joke now.”

The resident alleged that the vehicles were moving from their entrance near the Royal Mail sorting office, hence using a public highway to gain access to the site via Blowick Moss Lane – ignoring three signs indicating “no construction traffic”.

A spokesperson for David Wilson Homes North West said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused to residents.

“We would like to assure those affected that we have been liaising with the relevant contractors to ensure appropriate action is taken to regularly clean and minimise any further mud deposits.

“This includes a revised construction haul route, limited hours of operation, the use of wheel wash machinery and extensive use of road sweepers during the current material removal operation.

“All vehicles currently in that operation are registered to use the public highway, and we have relayed this and the above information to the relevant members of the council.”

Sefton Council sent an inspector out last week to investigate the site.
