Royal Mail has issued an important delivery alert affecting 151 postcodes in its latest announcement today. Residents are being cautioned about serious disruption to services, which could mean letters and parcels fail to arrive before Christmas.

The postal service revealed that certain local depots are experiencing difficulties “issues including high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors”. Whilst Royal Mail maintains its commitment to six-day-a-week deliveries, it acknowledged that in numerous trouble spots, this standard will “temporarily not be possible”.

The firm warned that households in these zones may face delays to correspondence and packages during what is one of the most hectic periods of the year. The organisation confirmed that delivery routes will be rotated to “minimise delay”, whilst extra resources have been deployed to help the most severely affected branches cope with surging festive demand.

An extensive register published on Royal Mail’s website today identifies scores of affected postcodes, spanning the entire UK, from Aberdare in Scotland and Derry in Northern Ireland through to Plymouth on England’s south coast.

Royal Mail offered its apologies for the inconvenience, saying: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted.”, reports the Mirror.
