Full police statement after man arrested following stolen Royal Mail van crash

A man has been arrested following a crash involving a stolen Royal Mail van.

Marine Drive – the A259 – has been closed due to the incident this evening which is being investigated by police.

Sussex Police has since issued a statement about what happened.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police received a report of a stolen vehicle in Hamsey Road, Brighton, on 8 January.

“The vehicle was later seen by officers, and crashed on the A259 at Ovingdean.

“A man has been arrested, and a temporary road closure is in place while we investigate this incident.”

Royal Mail said it could not comment due to the ongoing police investigation.
