Fulwood woman starts change.org campaign over traffic congestion

Josie has started the petition on change.org

A Fulwood woman has started a change.org campaign to protest against what she says is consistent traffic congestion in the Eastway area.

Josie Hastings is petitioning Lancashire County Council and Ben Wallace MP over the issue.

Josie said: “I have lived in Fulwood for ten years. Over the past five years, the landscape has changed dramatically. These days, what should be a six minute journey to my place of work can take between 30 and 90 minutes.

“This is detrimental to businesses, people living in and around this area, and livelihoods.

“Since the building of new houses on Eastway, a new retail park and a new Lidl supermarket being built on Eastway also, I felt it was time to take action.”

Josie says she contacted Lancashire County Council’s highways department earlier this year to report the traffic congestion, but didn’t receive a reply. She then got in touch with local MP Ben Wallace, who responded to say he expects a new link road between James Tower Way and Eastway will alleviate the traffic congestion – something Josie disagrees with.

“This ‘link road’ will only add to the traffic problems around this area, allowing more traffic to come on to Eastway.

“Traffic is gridlocked from 4pm to 6.15pm around the geographical circle:  CPC, Asda, coming out of Caxton Road both ways, Aldi, JTF and Royal Mail.

“Subsequently, Preston Bus has now stopped bus services around this area between 4pm and 6pm. Anyone taking the bus home needs to catch it at Aldi.

“I am no traffic expert but I think a traffic light system would help. It was pointed out to me that temporary traffic lights in the past did help the traffic to flow better at peak times around this key area.

“I have started this petition so I can present it to the council and hopefully they will act on it. My objective is to reach over 2,000 signatures.”

Josie is encouraging anyone affected by the congestion to sign the change.org petition.

Blog Preston contacted Lancashire County Council and Ben Wallace but did not receive a response.
