A 12-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a school bus while riding her bicycle.

The crash occurred on West Tropical Parkway west of North Emerald Eagle Street in Las Vegas shortly before 3:30 p.m. local time on Monday, Oct. 6, according to an initial press release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

Police said a 12-year-old girl was riding a BMX-style bicycle when she collided with a 2019 Thomas Built school bus, which was traveling westbound in the right-hand lane of Tropical Parkway.
The girl was then “projected” onto a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe that was parked nearby before falling to the ground, they added.

The bicyclist was transported to the UMC-Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. She died the next day, according to an updated press release from police.

Family has identified the victim via GoFundMe as Haylee Ryan, who just recently celebrated her 12th birthday. The girl was described in the description of the online fundraiser as “a sweet, pure, and fiercely creative child, who dreamed of becoming an artist one day.”

“Haylee’s kindness and spirit touched everyone who knew her, and her family and friends will always remember her for her warmth and imagination,” the organizer stated.

Megan Ryan, Haylee’s mom, said she was at work when she learned her daughter was involved in the crash, which occurred according to FOX affiliate KVVU-TV and ABC affiliate KNTV.

“I was hyperventilating on the drive to UMC and praying that I didn’t pass out,” she recalled, KVVU-TV reported.

This has been a difficult year for the Ryan family.

“Since March, I got separated from my husband, my youngest son got diagnosed with brain cancer, my nephew got paralyzed, and now my daughter this month,” the mom explained to KNTV.

Megan said there is just one thing keeping her going at the moment. “I just know that Haylee is with God right now,” she explained, according to the reports.
